Delaware Residents Enjoying Legalized Sports Gambling
The people of Delaware can now experience to a lesser extent the amount of excitement that can be found in a Las Vegas sports book on any given Sunday. Tomorrow, the NFL season will kick off a full slate of games, and the people of Delaware can bet on these games.
"This is a victory for people all across the US," said Bernice Fretters, "there are millions of sports gamblers out there that are betting with illegal bookies, and we are able to simply walk into our sports book and place a bet. Hopefully, soon, everybody will experience this feeling."
Of course it is not a complete victory for sports fans in Delaware. The state will be limited to accepting only parlay bets after the NFL and other sports leagues won their case in court. The leagues contended that single-game bets were not legal, and the court agreed.
The parlay bets will be tough for residents of the state to win. They must correctly pick at least three winners to win the parlay bets. If any of the three teams lose, it will be a losing ticket and the house and the state will be winners.
Dover Downs Hotel and Casino showed off their new sports book on Thursday. There were not as many people checking out the facility as expected, but they still believe that Sunday will be a big day. That is when the NFL plays a full schedule of games.
The NFL has been fighting hard to keep Delaware from offering any type of gambling on their sport. They realized, however, that sports betting was going to be allowed under law, so they attempted successfully to limit the amount of gambling that could be done.
