Doctors Betting Tiger Woods Returns To Normal After Surgery

Tiger Woods is not a normal athlete. Anyone who watched him win the U.S. Open last week on a broken leg can attest to the type of resolve this man has.

Having resolve and coming back from major knee surgery are two different things. Woods will take the rest of the year off while rehabilitating the knee, the he will return at some point next year.

Whether he will return to his dominant form is a question that many people are currently speculating about. Doctors around the country are betting that Woods will eventually come back at full strength.

"The fact that he had surgery two months ago and seemed to be visibly in pain with certain shots...I find it remarkable that he could play as well as he did and win a major tournament," said UCLA sports medicine specialist, Dr. David McAllister.

Others are concerned not for the immediate return by Woods, but what effects the surgery will have on him long term as he attempts to track down Jack Nicklaus' record for major titles.

"Given his natural ability and athletic talent, I think his chances are excellent. He should be able to get back and compete at the same level. How well he holds up long term over the next five to ten years, that's what's in doubt," said Chicago White Sox team physician Charles Bush-Joseph.
