Eagles And Saints Set For Saturday Night NFL Showdown
The Philadelphia Eagles began this season as one of the most surprising teams in the league after starting out hot. They proceeded to lose some games toward the middle of the season and when star quarterback Donovan McNabb was injured and lost for the year it appeared the Eagles season had took a turn for the worst.
Enter backup Jeff Garcia. Since the well traveled quarterback took over, the Eagles have soared and their season has been resurrected. They opened the playoffs as division champions and defeated divisional foe New York in their first round game, now they hit the road for a game with the upstart New Orleans Saints with a trip to the NFC title game on the line.
The Saints are no stranger to feel good stories themselves as they enter the playoffs in a year where most fans of the team would have just been happy to see them play on their home field in their home state.
When Hurricane Katrina rattled though the Gulf Coast, it took the Saints with it as there was much damage to the Superdome and the Saints had to play all their games on the road last season. There was talk the team would never return to the city of New Orleans and the idea of relocation was very real.
Now, after returning home early in the season to face the Atlanta Falcons, the Saints have played the entire year with a home schedule and surprisingly, have rode the wave of emotion to the conferences second best record.
New Orleans comes into the game with an explosive offense and the same is to be said for the Eagles. The game could be one in which the team that scores last wins. The winner will receive a trip to the title game next week against either Seattle, or the conferences top team, Chicago.
The line for the game this week is Saints -5 with a total of 48.5. The game is set for 8:00 Saturday night and will be televised on FOX.
