Edwards Gambling On Strong Finish As NASCAR Chase Nears
Carl Edwards knows that it is going to be a grueling process for him to win the season championship in NASCAR, but he is up for the challenge. He showed that again on Sunday when he took the checkered flag at Michigan International Speedway.
Edwards pulled away from series leader Kyle Busch at the end of the race, and he has now won two of the last three races. He has cut into Busch's overall lead and is readying himself for a championship run.
"We're winning races. We're gearing up for the chase. I'm feeling stronger than ever. We're here to win championships. That's what we're shooting for," said Edwards after the race on Sunday.
If the Chase started today, Edwards would begin only forty points behind Busch. That is a deficit that Edwards knows he can make up. There are still three races left before the actual Chase begins.
"Carl's right there. He has been all year. Yeah, it's a twenty point swing. We've got to live with it. Hopefully we can make it up somewhere else," said Busch. The twenty point swing he was talking about was because the winner of the races each receive ten bonus points, making the difference between first and second significant.
