Fantasy Football Betting Could Reach An All Time High This Year
It used to be that when someone wanted to gamble on pro football they would just call up a bookie and make a bet on one team or another. Now, there are plenty of other options for even the casual gambler to get their fix.
Fantasy football was a fun way for people to test their skills as an NFL team owner. It was a form of entertainment that gave people who did not gamble a reason to watch the games on Sunday.
That was before gambling was introduced into the game. Owners in today's fantasy football leagues have to fork out anywhere from $10 all the way up to thousands of dollars to enter their leagues.
Cash prizes are then divided up, usually amongst the top four teams that finish the season on top. These leagues have become very competitive, and even more than that, have become cash guzzlers.
The industry has gotten so big in the past ten years that almost every major sports reporting news agency runs their own leagues. ESPN, Yahoo, and CBS Sportsline all offer leagues to their customers.
The leagues can be free, but to achieve the ultimate amount of control, private leagues usually pay around $125 a season to these providers. That is not even counting their individual league costs.
With people moving more towards having to be entertained at all times, the fantasy football industry has preyed on action. Anybody can play, and anybody can win.
This season, with the increased popularity of football, the fantasy football industry could again set a record for amount of money being spent.
