Fantasy Football League Gambling Mirrors Real Life Betting
Fantasy football started out with some friends trying to figure out who could best run an NFL football team. It has evolved into a huge money making machine and has become one of the most popular activities enjoyed by football fans everywhere.
The best of players will tell you that there is much skill involved in their efforts, but our staff has created its own league for fun this year to determine the effects that luck has in wins and losses.
Our team was a traditional twelve team league that consisted of your usual blend of players ages twenty one to fifty. Each came into the league with their own strategy on what would work getting them to the top.
The first pick of the draft was LaDainian Tomlinson. He has been one of the top scorers several years in a row and even in the worst of seasons should be a top five running back. Oops.
Only one pick in and already luck has hurt one of our owners. Tomlinson has been nowhere near as dominant as the past few years, and the owner who was overjoyed having the number one overall pick has been saddled with a 2-7 record up until this point. Better luck next year.
O.K., so number one didn't fare so well. No problem, the number two team clearly would have a better fate. "Tom Brady", the player gloriously announced. Uh-oh. Brady was lost for the season after one week. Nine weeks later and another team is buried at the bottom of the standings.
Now let's move beyond draft day. Mowelde Moore is rumbling to between fifteen and twenty points a week. Brilliant draft day pick up. What do you mean nobody drafted him, but he is currently on the first place team. We'll just call this good fortune, so as not to focus on the word luck.
Another team in the league that has not been so lucky this year is the team that currently has scored more points from his starters than any other team in the league. Clearly he should be leading the league. Nope. A4-5 record and dangerously close to losing again this week despite currently having the high points in the league for the week.
So who leads this league of ours at the current time? It is a team that drafted the non-attention players. Steven Jackson and Frank Gore at running back, Dwayne Bowe leading the receivers, and Jay Cutler, the tenth quarterback taken on draft day.
With still three weeks left in the regular season and the playoffs following, there is still time for our luck theory to be disproved. That statement sounds eerily similar to the words of gamblers. Gamblers who actually bet on the games rather than betting on just the players who play in those games.
