Favre Not Playing Any More Games Might Be Good Thing For Packers

Brett Favre has had himself a tremendous career. Nothing can take away from all of the accomplishments that he accrued on the football field. Nothing, that is, except a cynic.

There is no denying the fact that Favre will most likely be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He was one of the toughest quarterbacks the game has ever seen.

It may turn out, however, that the Green Bay Packers might be better off without him. I know that outsiders will not understand that last statement, but Packer fans who have watched over the years, know just what I'm talking about.

Brett Favre cost his team just as many games as he won for them over the years. For every year that he threw thirty touchdowns, there were the fifteen interceptions that came along with them.

The last pass that Favre threw in his career might be the one that proves my point the most. The result of the pass was an interception by the Giants. several plays later, New York defeated Favre's Packers in their own stadium. That scene played out all too often in Favre's career. Bad decisions followed by bad losses.

That game, and that pass, was as much about what Favre's career was about, as any touchdown pass he ever threw. He took chances. Too many. When they worked out, he looked like a savior. When they didn't, they often cost Favre and his team victories. Important ones. The kind of victories that could have made him the best of all time.

So as Favre says goodbye to the league, if indeed he does retire, he will be remembered here as an above average quarterback, whose arm and decision making lost as many games as they won.
