Sportsbooks Have Federer Overwhelming Favorite at Wimbledon
Roger Federer is set to win his fourth Wimbledon title in 4 years. International odds makers today at VIP Sportsbook, the world's largest online sportsbook and casino, have listed the first seeded Federer as the heavy 3-1 favorite to hoist the gentleman's trophy in July.
On the women's side, fourth seeded Maria Sharapova is the 5-2 favorite, and will hope to fair better than 2005's semi-final defeat to eventual winner Venus Williams. Representing the United States' best chance for grasscourt glory on the men's side is Andy Roddick, who odds makers have given a 6-1 bet at taking the all-England championship.
Seeded third in this year's tournament, Roddick has met Federer at centre court in the last two Wimbledon finals, but only managed to steal one set from the Swiss top seed. Other seeded Americans taking to the courts in Wimbledon are James Blake (20-1) and veteran Andre Agassi (60-1). On the women's side, defending champion, and seventh seed Venus Williams will be the only American playing in the tournament after sister Serena Williams and compatriots Jennifer Capriati and Lindsay Davenport have bowed out due to injuries.
