Florida Gators Hurt NCAA Chances With Loss To Alabama Crimson Tide
The Florida Gators knew they were in for a long season. Teams do not sit around and watch all of their star players get drafted into the NBA, and still maintain a level of excellence.
The Gators are the two time college basketball champions, but it does not appear they will extend that streak to three. They might not even get the chance to defend their title.
The Gators limped into their opener of the SEC tournament Thursday night against Alabama. They have not been playing good basketball, and they knew they would have to make a strong showing in their conference tournament just to make the NCAA's.
That strong showing never happened. The Crimson Tide took control of the game early, holding a double digit lead at the end of the first half. They never looked back and never relinquished the lead. In the end, they held on to beat Florida.
The Gators must now hope that tournament directors feel sympathy for them. The chances of that, however, are not good. It appears after a first round in the SEC tournament, that the Gators will be heading to the NIT tournament, not the NCAA.
They had a nice two year run, but it has come to an end on Thursday evening.
