Florida Marlins Defying Gambling Odds Once Again
The Florida Marlins have been through some tough times in South Florida. They have a fan base that barely turns out 5,000 people on some nights, and have been rumored to be leaving the area for years.
Nobody around baseball is feeling bad for the Marlins, however. The reason? They still find a way to be competitive and have won two World Series championships. Fans in Chicago would die for the problems the Marlins have.
The team recently received approval on a new ballpark at the site of what will soon be the former Orange Bowl, but that did not stop sports books from making the Marlins gambling odds for this season one of the worst of all Major League teams.
None of that stuff fazes the Marlins. They are doing again this year what they have done before. Found a way to be competitive with a team of players, who combined, make less than Alex Rodriguez.
Only time will tell if the Marlins can keep it up through the summer, and actually compete in the National League East. Conventional wisdom says they can't.
Conventional wisdom will not stop them from trying, however, and as the calendar gets ready to turn to May, Florida finds themselves in first place, and beating the gambling odds.
