Gamblers Have Familiar Decision In Jets-Chargers Game Sunday
Every year in the NFL playoffs, at some point there comes a game that matches up a great defense against a great offense. This week, that game takes place in San Diego where the Chargers will host the New York Jets.
The old adage is that good defense trumps good offense, but there has been plenty of examples over the years where the opposite has occurred. For gamblers, it is a difficult decision to make.
Most bettors like to go with the team that can put up points in a hurry. This week, that would mean the Chargers and their Pro Bowl quarterback Phillip Rivers. The Jets, however, have one of the top shut down corners in the league, and a defense that overall ranks near the top of the league.
New York will also be relying heavily on a running game that shredded the Cincinnati Bengals for the last two weeks. Now that running game will face another of the top defenses, and a squad that is part of a team that has not lost in three months.
Jets coach Rex Ryan proclaimed his team the favorite to win the Super Bowl when the post season started, but the Chargers will certainly have something to say about that this Sunday. San Diego had the second best record in the AFC this season, and is rested after a week off.
The Chargers are a seven point favorite as of Friday afternoon. Although the Jets are underdogs, the public seems to be leaning their way. The betting line started at nine before dropping to seven by the end of the week.
