Gambling And Horse Racing The Theme For New HBO Pilot "Luck"

HBO has had some of the biggest series' in the history of cable television, and they are hoping they have found the next great one. An HBO pilot has been ordered from Deadwood creator David Milch and filmmaker Michael Mann.

The pair will executive produce the pilot "Luck," which will center around the horse racing industry. The series will look at the industry through the eyes of different characters that are around the race track.

Mann has been focused on his film-making career, but did not pass up the opportunity to work with Milch. The latter has produced several HBO series' in the past, including John From Philadelphia and Deadwood.

HBO has been searching for that next great hit since they aired the final episode of The Sopranos. Since then, the cable network has relied more on their comedy offerings than their dramas. The story will not be far from reality for Milch.

The creator has owned horses before, and has even had horses that have won Breeders' Cup races. He will take his firsthand knowledge to the new show, and he will be joined by Mann, a good friend.

The central character of "Luck" is Ace Bernstein. The character has just been released from prison for security violations, and he has returned to the race track, where he was always regularly found.
