Gambling Favorites Taking A Beating So Far In Euro 2008
The game of soccer does not usually have many upsets when it get this far into a major tournament. Coming into the quarter-finals of Euro 2008, there were a few very clear gambling favorites.
Watching the first three games of the Euro tournament, it is hard to figure out who those gambling favorites were. Several upsets have offset the competitive balance of the tournament.
Turkey was the first shock winner yesterday. They continued their improbable run by defeating Croatia on penalty kicks. They move on to face Germany in the semi-finals.
Today, the biggest shocker of the tournament so far took place. Russia was up against a heavily favored team from the Netherlands. The game went into extra time, and Russia scored two goals to defeat the Dutch.
They will now await the winner of the Italy-Spain match on Sunday. The winner joins the final four and faces the prospects of having to just beat an upstart Russian team to make it to the finals.
With gambling heavy on the sport of soccer, the results from the past week will surely be costing gamblers some money. Outside of Germany, the other two matches ended in extreme upsets.
