Gambling On Joey Chestnut Brings Back Tiger Woods Memories

When gamblers think about the top sports to bet on, it is rare that anyone will find a bettor that chooses a hot dog eating contest. In Joey Chestnut, however, gamblers have found a betting dominance similar to what Tiger Woods provided when he owned golf for a decade.

Tiger Woods, at his best, not only won tournaments, but he defended his championships as well as any golfer ever. The consistency shown by Woods was welcomed by gamblers who were being paid two to three times their money each time Woods won.

Hot dog eating contests would be the last thing considered to be a sport, but somehow it has made its way into the rotation on ESPN. On the Fourth of July, ESPN televises the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest from Coney Island. The last three years, Chestnut has won the event.

Today was no different and gamblers who regularly bet on Chestnut have now run their winning streak to four. Chestnut defeated a field that was highly unspectacular because of the absence of Chestnut's chief rival, Takeru Kobayashi.

Although it seems simple enough to enter a contest, the hot dog circuit has rules that must be followed. Kobayashi does not have a contract with Major League Eating that allows him to compete in events sanctioned by other groups. The two rivals had hoped the contract dispute would have been worked out by Sunday, but it was not.

Kobayashi was in attendance to see Chestnut win his fourth consecutive title. After the event was complete, Kobayashi went on the stage, and had to be detained by police. The hot dog eating phenom was arrested while Chestnut was celebrating his victory.

Chestnut ate fifty-four hot dogs in ten minutes, which was enough to win today, but not enough to break the world record. As was the case with Woods, when Chestnut is on top of his game, there is nobody in his sport that can compete with the champion.
