Gambling On Kobe Bryant As A Leader Pays Off For U.S. Basketball

Kobe Bryant is considered one of the older veterans on the United States Olympic basketball team. He is joined by Jason Kidd to form the old players of the group.

Outside of those two, there is a bunch of youth on this years squad, and the decision to let Bryant lead appears to be paying off for the Americans. They are currently undefeated and steamrolling towards a gold medal.

Sure, it is Bryant and his endless energy and focus that has kept his teammates from letting up, but the young players have to have the desire to keep up with Bryant for the whole thing to work.

Bryant sets the example, and LeBron James and Dwyane Wade have followed almost flawlessly. Both James and Wade have been considered top players in their sport, but they are just now proving that they have the maturity to match their talent.

For Bryant, he has gone about his business for the past few years with many fans waiting for him to slip up, and he has not. He continues to grow as a player and has shown in these Olympics that he can lead even the best athletes in his sport.

He has deferred to both James and Wade in the scoring category but has become the team spokesman. He has taken on more the role of mentor and coach than he has player.

The United States vowed to send a group of players to Beijing that were hungry enough to come home with the gold, and the youth has much to do with achieving that goal. The youth coupled with the wisdom of a guy who is considered the older veteran of the group.
