Gambling On Yankees To Make Playoffs Is A Losing Proposition
The New York Yankees are on the type of playoff run that only one team, the Atlanta Braves, have enjoyed. Barring a miraculous finish, however, that run for the Yankees will come to an end this year.
While they are not even leading the wild card race at this time, there are still people who are gambling them to make the playoffs. That will end up being a losing proposition this year.
The Yankees have just finished losing two of three to their hated rivals the Red Sox. It may have been the last time Boston will ever travel to Yankee stadium for a series, and the Bronx Bombers could muster was one win.
They are in third place in the American League East, and with the Rays showing no signs of weakening, and the Red Sox coming on, there does not look to be any wiggle room for the Yanks to slip in.
They would have to have a finish similar to last year's Rockies and Phillies to make a serious run, and they do not look like a team capable of sustaining that kind of winning streak.
Their pitching is in shambles, and their offense has been surprisingly inept. Alex Rodriguez has signed the biggest baseball contract in history in the off season, and has proceeded to have one of his most unproductive seasons.
For the Yankees to make the playoffs, both the Rays and Red Sox as well as the Twins or White Sox would have to fall apart, and there is a slim chance of that. That anyone who is still gambling on New York to be playing into the middle of October in a vulnerable financial
