Gambling Public Receives A Scare, But US Falls Short Versus Brazil
When gamblers decide to bet on a favorite where they have to lay five times more than they can win, it is usually done because somethings seems like a lock. As many gamblers know, perceived locks can end up with disastrous results.
That was almost the case for anyone who felt that Brazil was a lock over the US in the Confederates Cup final on Sunday. To bet on Brazil, a gambler had to bet five times more than they would win. Despite that, the heavy money was still on Brazil.
Then the game started and in the first twenty-five minutes those bettors that wagered on Brazil were shaking. The US scored two early goals and at the end of the first half looked to be outplaying the Brazilians badly.
Unfortunately for underdog bettors and the Americans, there are two halves to each soccer game, and this game was the tale of those two. The second half was dominated by Brazil, overcoming the two goal deficit by scoring three of their own in route to the championship.
The bettors were saved by brilliant attacking play by the Brazilians. The game had the feel after Brazil scored their first goal that the US was playing with borrowed time, and that turned out to be the case.
All was not lost for the US. Their appearance in the finals was unexpected and their win over the top team in the world, Spain, was breathtaking. Now they look forward to more World Cup qualifying, and after this week's performance, the world has been served notice that the Americans are a team to be reckoned with.
