Gamecocks And Tigers Highlight College Football Schedule

Steve Spurrier has been saying for years since he returned to the college sidelines that his South Carolina Gamecocks were not ready to compete for an SEC title, this season, he's changing his tune.

Spurrier told his team before this season started that he now believes that his team is prepared to make a run at the title. Those words did not fall on deaf ears as the Gamecocks players have been waiting for that support from Spurrier, much like a child awaits for approval from their parents.

The belief in his team has paid off so far as South Carolina has opened the season undefeated and can take a huge step toward that SEC title when they play the #2 team in the country, LSU on Saturday.

The Tigers have been one of three teams, along with USC and Oklahoma, who have looked dominant in the first few weeks of the season. LSU has looked so good, in fact, that their head coach has been rumored to be headed to Michigan to take over the Wolverines program after Lloyd Carr.

There is only one other top twenty five match up this weekend and it also involves two SEC teams.

Georgia came into the season with ideas of playing for a national championship, but after a slow start, the Bulldogs have gotten themselves back into the the rankings at #22.

They will match up against the #16 team in the country, the Alabama Crimson Tide. They have had their own bit of controversy in the off season when they hired estranged Dolphins coach Nick Saban away from the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Although Saban is looked at as a villain in Miami, he is expected to be a savior for Alabama, and return the once proud university back to the top of the college football universe.
