Gators Have The Players Thanks To Coach Zook

Ask coach Urban Meyer and he will be the first to tell you that the head coaching position is a bit overated. Meyer was responding on Monday to the idea that former coach Ron Zook had much to do with the current Gators success."...This coaching gig is overated. It's players. It's a great tribute to coach Zook and his staff that there are Ray Mcdonalds and Jarvis Mosses, and Chris Leaks, and Dallas Bakers, and Jamalle Corneliuses running around. Obviously you can't get it done without great players."

Entering his second season with the Gators Meyer has his team on the brink of winning a national title if they can get by Ohio State, but most of his players, all in fact, except one starter of the players that will take the field in the title game were recruited by Zook.

Zook raised eyebrows last week when he was the only Big Ten coach that voted the Gators ahead of Michigan for the #2 spot in the coaches poll. The vote was one that could have made a difference in the final BCS standings and one that was not taken kindly at his weekly news conference.

Zook's ties to the Gators current players was surely a factor in that vote being that he was the one who sat in those players living room and convinced them to go to the University of Florida.

"Believe me, it's no slight to Michigan at all. I thought you were supposed to vote how you feel, and obviously, i did know those kids."
