How Will Jennifer Sterger Affect Vikings-Jets Betting Odds?
In this day and age it is almost impossible for an athlete to keep texts or phone conversations private. For Brett Favre, the media coverage that the quarterback has come to rely on to track his every move in the off season may come back to haunt him.
Deadspin.com has run a story that alleges that Favre had made contact and sent X-rated pictures to former Jets employee Jennifer Sterger. The allegations are that Favre was pursuing Sterger for a romantic fling, and neither the quarterback nor Sterger has responded to the allegation.
Gamblers are now becoming weary of the possible implications of the story on Favre, whose Minnesota Vikings are traveling to New York this weekend. The Jets and the Vikings are meeting on Monday Night Football, and with the national exposure of the Monday night game, the story of Favre and Sterger is sure to gain traction throughout the weekend.
The Jets were already the betting favorite in the game, although the line has dropped to 3.5 since the Vikings acquired Randy Moss from the Patriots. Moss brings a deep threat that Minnesota has not had in the first three games of the season, and he will most likely be matched against cornerback Darrelle Revis.
The total for the game is thirty-nine, and this is where the Favre, Sterger issue could play a part. If Favre is distracted from the game due to the affair allegations, there is a chance that the Jets defense will pick apart the Vikings offense.
Favre has shown, however, an ability to rise to the occasion when the going gets tough. Several years ago when his father passed away, Favre played on Monday night that week and torched the Oakland Raiders in one of the most storied games in NFL history.
Sterger has not responded directly to the reports that Favre pursued her, but she did have derogatory comments about Favre, calling him "creepy." Favre is currently married and his private life has been chronicled in detail over the past couple of years while fans waited to learn whether or not Favre would return to the NFL or retire.
