I Want Revenge The Mid-Week Kentucky Derby Betting Favorite
The state of Kentucky has had a roller coaster of a year when it comes to gambling. Their governor, Steve Beshear, unsuccessfully attempted to seize 141 domain names from online gambling sites, all the while trying to expand gambling within the state.
Now, the crown jewel of the betting industry in the state is set for Saturday. The 135th running of the Kentucky Derby will take place at Churchill Downs, and the betting should be fast and furious despite the slowed economy.
I Want Revenge is the mid-week betting favorite at 9-4. The horse will likely be the favorite all the way up until the race. I Want Revenge has won the Gotham and wood Memorial at Aqueduct, which could be the reason he is favored to win the Derby.
His stiffest competition may come from Dunkirk. The horse finished second in the Florida Derby and is the second betting choice at 9-2. His trainer believes that his late arrival to Louisville will have no bearing on the outcome of the race.
"You're always concerned until they are here safely," said Todd Pletcher, "But I really saw no reason he had to be here any sooner than this. It worked for Funny Cide, for Giacomo, and for Big Brown. And it's not a matter of getting used to the track. With this rain, they'll keep a seal on it, and it will be changing between now and Saturday."
Other possible threats to I Want Revenge could come from Pioneer of the Nile, who is trained by Bob Baffert. The horse's odds of 11-2 hardly make him a long shot. Friesan Fire also is considered among the favorites at 7-1.
