Jefferson To Spurs Trade May Alter NBA Betting Odds
The San Antonio Spurs are a team that has become accustomed to making long runs through the playoffs. They have been arguably the best team of the past decade, and they are intent on keeping things that way. That is why they have already made a major move this off season.
The Spurs finished last season disappointingly. They did not make their usual playoff run, mainly due to injury, but that did not stop them from making a big trade. On Monday, they acquired Richard Jefferson from the Milwaukee Bucks for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, and Faricio Oberto.
The trade may once again catapult the Spurs to being one of the teams that can challenge the Lakers in the Western Conference next year. Los Angeles is likely returning their entire roster, and are already the betting favorites to win back to back NBA titles.
The odds makers are always quick to place the defending champions as the favorites going into the next year. When Boston won two seasons ago, they were immediately installed as the favorites for last year. Now, it is the Lakers turn to defend their title.
Sand Antonio knows a thing or two about defending titles. Their main core of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker have had to defend NBA championships before. their front office also knows how to get to the top.
The Spurs are an aging bunch, and they may only have one or two title runs left, that is why it is important to surround Duncan with as much help as possible. On Monday, that help arrived in the form of Jefferson, and it may have shaken up the betting futures for next season.
