In the NFL, there are two franchises that are considered the model these days in how to run an organization and stay successful. Those two teams are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots.

The Patriots and Steelers have run their organization with the basic idea that it takes teamwork to succeed, and that no one player would ever be bigger than the organization. That way of thinking has led the two teams to win five of the last eight Super Bowls.

There are other teams that have run under the assumption that collecting the highest priced talent will bring success. The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins are two prime examples of this train of thought. Neither has won a title since 1996.

The Redskins have continued down that path this off season by signing the highest priced free agent on the market in Albert Haynesworth. Dallas, however, may have begun to see the error of their ways.

On Wednesday night, the Cowboys released Terrell Owens, sending a chilling message to the rest of the team that selfish play will no longer be accepted, and that team success will come first. Owens had been a distraction for much of last year, holding true to form of his entire career. he has never won a Super Bowl.

On Thursday, the Cowboys continued with their new found team-first approach. They released five time pro bowler Roy Wlliams, simply because he wanted out. It was a message of 'If you don't want to be here contributing to the cause, then we don't want you.'

Only time will tell if Dallas will be better in the long run for these two moves, but one thing is certain. The Cowboys are admitting through these two moves that their approach was not working, and that already gives them a leg up on the future.
