Jets Betting on Favre, Might Not Start Him In Preseason Finale
The New York Jets have accomplished what they had set out to do in the off season. They stole the spotlight away from the defending champion New York Giants and found themselves a starting quarterback.
That starting quarterback has only played in a couple of preseason games for the Jets, but they feel he might already be ready for the first game of the year. Of course, it helps when that quarterback is Brett Favre.
Favre would like to play in the preseason finale this weekend and he may still get his wish. As of now, however, New York is leaning towards holding him out of that last game.
The decision becomes easier with each all pro player that goes down with an injury. This past weekend, Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor was lost to injury and may miss the first game this season.
An even better example of why the Jets want to keep Favre out of this last game is their crosstown rival, the Giants. All they did in the last game was lose their all pro defender Usi Umenyiora for the entire season.
The decision will most likely be made in the next day, and if Favre has his say he will be under center. Chances are, though, that he will not have his say, and the Jets will protect the future Hall of Famer.
