Kentucky Derby Betting Odds Change With I Want Revenge Scratch

The Kentucky Derby has not yet even been run and already Churchill Downs has seen something that has never happened in the history of the race. I Want Revenge, the morning favorite, has been scratched from the race.

Friesan Fire had already become the favorite by Friday night, but I Want Revenge was still considered by many to be the horse that would win the Derby. Friesan Fire is currently a 5-1 choice.

Pioneer Of The Nile and Quality Road are both also considered betting favorites. With three horses bunched at the top, this year's Kentucky Derby could become one of the greatest races of all time.

"Losing the morning favorite is not something that has ever happened," said observer Thomas Numul, "It should make for an interesting race, one in which many horses have a chance to win."

Trainer Jeff Mullins said it was pretty much a no-brainer of his decision to scratch I Want Revenge from the race. He claims he found a hot spot on the horse's front ankle that caused inflammation.

Doctors took x-rays and found nothing to be wrong, but Mullins decided it was best not to tempt fate. The horse, as it should be, was more important than the race, so I Want Revenge was scratched.
