Kentucky Derby Gambling Odds: Big Brown The Favorite
Sports gambling runs in cycles. During football season, gamblers are focused on the NFL and college football. Then, when football season ends, gamblers shift their attention to basketball, both college and professional, until of course, March Madness.
After the NCAA tournament is over, gamblers have the NBA and NHL playoffs, and also the start of the baseball season. In early May, however, the focus of gamblers shifts for six weeks to a lesser known sport. Horse racing.
With the Kentucky Derby just hours away, the odds are out on this year's Derby, and the favorite is Big Brown at 3-1. It will be difficult for Brown to win the Derby with his tough starting position, but he still remains the favorite.
Colonel John is the second choice at 5-1, and Pyro is the third choice at 7-1. Those are the only three horses with odds that are less than 10-1 in the large field of twenty horses.
There are five horses that currently have odds of between 12-1, and 16-1. Z Fortune is the 12-1 horse, and Eight Belles, Court Vision, and Visionaire are all 16-1. Denis of Cork is 14-1.
There also are several long shots in the racing field. Z Humor and Anak Nakal are both considered heavy underdogs at 66-1. Cowboy Cal and Cool Coal Man are both 50-1. The rest of the horses fall somewhere between 20-1 and 25-1.
The race is set for legendary Churchill Downs, and post time will be 6:04 P.M.
