Kobe Bryant Betting His Legacy On Game Seven Sunday
Kobe Bryant has always aspired to be one thing, the best. In order to be considered the best, a player must continually show that his leadership and skill meet the expectations of millions.
On Sunday, Bryant will get the chance to cement or destroy his legacy. For years he has begged Lakers management to surround him with championship talent. They have done so this year, and Bryant is one game from squandering the opportunity.
It is true that his teammates have done a disappearing act on him in this postseason, but for players who want to be considered the best, they find ways to overcome their teams deficiencies. Bryant's legacy, as it stands, will always be linked to Shaquille O'Neal.
The one thing that critics of his game point to is that he has not won a title without Shaq. He has not shown that he can put a team on his back and carry them when they are falling apart around him. That is the opportunity Bryant has on Sunday.
Whether his teammates show up to play Sunday in game seven will be largely reliant on how Bryant starts the game. If he comes out and sparks them, they will follow his lead and bury the Rockets like they did in Game five. If he comes out and immediately is frustrated, they could end up on the wrong side of the scoreboard.
Nobody expects the Lakers to lose game seven at home. That makes Sunday's game that much more dangerous for Bryant. If he wins, it was expected. If the Lakers lose, however, it will go down as one of the biggest upsets in the history of the NBA playoffs, and that is something that no player who strives to be the best wants on their resume.
