Lakers Betting Odds Slip Further With Loss To Lowly Cavaliers
A couple of seasons ago, a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the regular season would have been no big deal for the Los Angeles Lakers. Back then, LeBron James had the Cavs as one of the top teams in the league year in and year out.
That was then, This is now. The Cavaliers are the league's worst team, and have lost games by the dozens. They have already been apart of the longest losing streak in NBA history, and their play at times has been hard to watch. For those reasons, it comes as a shock that on Wednesday evening Cleveland defeated the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers.
Before the season began, the Lakers were part of a group of teams that had short odds to win a championship. The Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics were also on that list. Heading into the all-star break, the Lakers appear to be the least likely of the three teams to win a title this season.
Miami has gone on several long winning streaks, and Boston is tied with the Heat for the best record in the East. The Lakers, on the other hand, are almost ten games behind San Antonio for the top spot in the conference. Compounding things for L.A. is the fact that they are also behind Dallas, and are only a couple of games ahead of Oklahoma City.
The Lakers have been called out this season by some of the legends of their organization. Magic Johnson has been outspoken about the Lakers play, and Jerry West went as far as to say the Lakers looked as though they were getting old. West did not have to go out on a limb with that prediction, as Los Angeles is one of the oldest teams in the league.
The all-star break has arrived, and it could not have come at a better time for the Lakers. Kobe Bryant will be suiting up as a starter in the all-star game, while the rest of the Lakers will take the time to reflect on a season that is slowly slipping away.
