Lakers Gambling On Last Year's Experience To Drive Playoff Run
The Los Angeles Lakers were not pleased with the way their season ended last year. They were blown out in Game six of the NBA Finals by the Boston Celtics. After the humiliating loss, the Lakers vowed not to end up with the same fate this year.
They spoke in the off season of having to get tougher. The Celtics manhandled the Lakers in the finals, and the lack of toughness was exposed. The entire theme of this season was to change that image from last year.
Through the regular season, Los Angeles achieved their goal. They came out of the gates like a team on a mission, winning twenty of their first twenty three games. They then held the intensity all the way through the year, and finished miles ahead of the rest of the Western Conference.
Now they are back in a position to chase another championship. They have been made the betting favorites to win the title, and even with LeBron James most likely wrestling the MVP award away from Kobe Bryant, there remains only one focus for Bryant and the Lakers.
Bryant is still trying to show the world that he can win a championship on a team where he is the best player. If he fulfills that goal, there will be little left for him to do to be considered one of the top ten players of all time.
The road started on Sunday, and with L.A. throttling Utah in game one of their series, the focus has never been more evident. It is championship or bust for L.A., and this time they appear up for the challenge.
