Las Vegas Casinos Could Benefit From Pacquiao, Mayweather Jr. Fight
The Las Vegas casino industry has been ravaged by the economic crisis in the UD and worldwide. After trying all different approaches to bring people back to Sin City, the casinos may have finally found their golden ticket.
Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. have established themselves as the two best fighters in the world. They are a combined 90-3-2, and are widely considered the best pound for pound boxers around. Luckily for Las Vegas casinos, they are also boxing in the same weight class as welterweights.
On Monday, the wheels started to spin on bringing the fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. to fruition. The promoters of the two boxers, Bob Arum and Richard Schaefer held a closed door meeting to negotiate terms of the deal.
If the fight does happen, it would be sometime in 2010, and it is expected to become the highest grossing boxing match ever. This is at a time when boxing fans are past their prime and the sport is struggling to find names that draw.
Pacquiao and Mayweather have the names that people would respond to. The boxing industry has been waiting years for a blockbuster match up like this, and it could not have come at a better time for Las Vegas casinos.
Although the deal is not complete, and some other areas of the US would like the fight, the most likely scenario is that it takes place in Las Vegas. If that was to occur, it would be a huge boost for the casinos that have struggled so mightily in the past couple of years.
Up to 30,000 people could come in to the city to attend the fight. It would be the type of tourism boost that the city and its casinos desperately need, and all that is standing in the way of a big payday for the fighters and the casinos, is two signatures.
