Las Vegas Zeroes In On Final Super Bowl Betting Odds

The third week of the preseason is the time when NFL teams play their starters for the longest period of time. As the week comes to an end Monday, the teams generally know who will be playing come opening day, and which players will have had their seasons altered by injury.

All of the factors that go into the final 53-man roster are taken into account not only by the teams, but also Las Vegas sports books as they prepare to offer their final preseason Super Bowl betting odds.

The two teams that have been favored to reach and win the Super Bowl for the entire off season have been the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers. The teams both escaped the preseason without a major injury, and will enter the 2012-13 season as overwhelming betting favorite.

New England will be on top, with odds of 11/2. The Patriots have seemingly been Super Bowl favorites in every season that Tom Brady has been under center. This year, New England brought in Brandon Lloyd, a top wide receiver weapon that the Patriots rarely have had in Brady's tenure.

The Packers are the second choice of odds makers, with 6/1 odds. Green Bay was considered a favorite last season to repeat as Super Bowl champs, but injuries and a lack of consistency hurt the Packers down the stretch. Aaron Rodgers is considered by many analysts to be the top quarterback in the game.

San Francisco, a team that reached the NFC championship game last year, is the third choice at 9/1. Philadelphia, a popular choice last year with all of their free agent signings, is again a top choice of sports books, coming in at 11/1.

A pair of AFC teams come in next. Houston, who got their first taste of the postseason last year, is a 12/1 choice, while perennial power Pittsburgh is at 15/1. The Steelers are hoping that a healthy Ben Roethlisberger can be the difference in Pittsburgh returning to the game they have won more than any other franchise.

The defending champion Giants are not receiving much love from the odds makers. New York is only the 12th choice, with odds of 22/1. The Giants have longer odds than two division rivals, the Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys, who have odds of 20/1. The Giants and Cowboys meet to open the new season on Wednesday, September 5th in New York.
