The chase for LeBron James will officially start on July 1st, but for all intensive purposes, the game has already began. When James and his Cleveland Cavaliers were bounced from the playoffs, the wheels started to turn, and online sports books have immediately responded.

Gamblers like to make proposition bets on anything from results of games, to, in this case, where James will play his home basketball games next year. James becomes a free agent on July 1st, and the sports books are offering odds of where he will end up.

Cleveland is near James' hometown of Akron, and the local boy made superstar angle has been played. James has embraced the idea of putting Cleveland on the map, and he has done so in his years with the Cavaliers, but he still has not brought the city a championship.

The inability to finish what he started may be a factor in his upcoming free agency decision. Cleveland is the betting favorite with odds of -150 to retain James. Other teams are also in the running, but none that have not been mentioned in recent months.

Michael Jordan controlled the Chicago sports scene for over a decade and to this day, Jordan is still considered the most popular athlete in Chicago. That could change in James decides to sign with the Bulls. Chicago has odds of +150 to pull James out of Cleveland.

The New York Knicks would offer LeBron all the perks of playing in the big city, but that would also come with much more media scrutiny. The Knicks are +200 to sing James. The Nets have odds of +400 with their new billionaire owner expected to throw a strong package at James.

The Miami Heat have their own free agent star to worry about in Dwyane Wade, but they have odds of +600 to pit Wade together with James in Miami. The other team with betting odds is the Los Angeles Clippers, with odds of +1000.
