Luck Era Begins In Indianapolis To Bettors' Delight
NFL gamblers are a predictable bunch when it comes to where they are going to lay their money. Bettors are consistent in the idea that the teams with the best quarterbacks are usually the teams that gamblers place their faith in.
In Indianapolis, Peyton Manning has given bettors a safety net on Sunday afternoons for over a decade, but with Manning moving on to Denver, gamblers are stuck playing the guessing game when betting on the Colts. Andrew Luck showed on Sunday that Indy may be a team to take seriously sooner rather than later.
Luck saw his first game action since being drafted out of Stanford when the Colts played host to the St. Louis Rams. Indianapolis' new quarterback showed glimpses of why the Colts made Luck the first overall pick in the draft this summer. Luck finished the game 10-16 for 188 yards and two touchdowns. It was the type performance that Colts fans have become accustomed to from their offense.
While Luck was tearing it up in Indianapolis, former Colts quarterback Manning was throwing his first passes for his new team in Denver. The Broncos kicked Tim Tebow to the curb this past off season in favor of Manning, and the early returns were positive on the health of Manning, who is coming off three neck surgeries.
The second pick in the draft, Robert Griffin III also had a successful debut. Griffin did not do much in terms of lighting up the scoreboard, but he did play solidly in the Redskins' 7-6 win over Buffalo.
A pair of Pro Bowl quarterbacks met in San Diego where Phillip Rivers and the Chargers battled Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. The quarterbacks each threw an interception in the game, and ultimately the Chargers prevailed with a 21-13 win. San Diego is expected to be one of the sleeper teams to watch this season, according to NFL analysts.
The defending champion Giants took their first step towards a possible repeat with a preseason match up with Jacksonville. The Jaguars got the better of the champs, 32-21.
For gamblers, the preseason serves as a time to scope out the betting hopefuls for the upcoming year. Preseason betting is available at all major sports books in Las Vegas, although officials claim the action is far greater once the regular season begins.
