Major League Baseball Betting Begins With Phillies And Braves
Taking a page out of the NFL, Major League Baseball has decided to begin its new season with the champions from the previous year. The Philadelphia Phillies will be playing the Atlanta Braves Sunday in the first game of the year.
Philadelphia won the National League East and then subsequently beat the Brewers and the Dodgers on their way to the National League pennant. They then capped their season off with a World Series win over Tampa Bay.
The Braves, on the other hand, are one of those teams that had a season to forget. They finished in fourth place in the East, and were not competitive with the Phillies, Mets, and Marlins for much of the season.
Atlanta has retooled their team for the upcoming season. They said goodbye to John Smoltz, and re-signed Tom Glavine. They also added Javier Vazquez and Derek Lowe to the rotation.
The Phillies return almost the same team that won the title a year ago. Their one question mark is whether or not Cole Hamels arm will hold up. It has been a source of concern for the entire spring.
Hope once again springs eternal for all Major League ball clubs and the journey begins tonight. The Phillies and Braves get to do the honors in a game that millions of baseball fans have been waiting for.
