Major League Baseball Gambling Begins At Crack of Dawn Eastern Time
Major League Baseball is once again showing how fan loyalty is a thing of the past. Millions of people will be deprived of seeing the first pitch of the 2008 baseball season due to it being played in Japan.
Baseball purists will have much to say about having to wake up at 6:00 A.M. Eastern time to see the first pitch of the new season. 2008 begins Tuesday morning, and its a good bet that unless you are a gambler, you will not be awake for the first pitch.
The Boston Red Sox are the defending champions, and they open the year against the Oakland A's. Dice-K will be on the mound for the Red Sox. That alone should make this first game historic. Joe Blanton will start for the A's.
Boston is favored in the game. They are -157. Oakland is +137. The odds makers are expecting a fair amount of runs to be scored. The total on the game is nine and a half.
The Red Sox and A's will play two games in Japan before heading back to the states. Both teams have also played exhibition games against Japanese teams on their visit across the world.
The rest of baseball will be continuing their spring training games before rapping up camp. The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals will play on Sunday night, with many other teams starting their season on Monday.
