Major League Baseball Injuries Could Take Toll On Gambling

When the preseason gambling odds come out for Major League Baseball, gamblers take a close look to see if there are any teams they would like to place bets on. Usually, it involves teams winning their division, or a pennant.

Also available before the season starts, are over under totals on how many wins a team will have in the upcoming season. The better teams can have totals of 90-100, while the teams projected near the bottom will have win totals around 65-70.

One thing gamblers cannot predict when making bets on any of these future plays, is injury. An injury to any superstar for an extended period of time could help, or hurt, a gambler depending on whether they bet over or under a teams win total.

As the season gets ready to enter into the third month, several teams are facing injuries to big time players that could alter a gamblers bet for the rest of this year. In San Diego, the Padres have their ace, Jake Peavy on the disabled list. He has already missed two weeks, and could still miss more time with a bad elbow.

Colorado, the defending National League champions, are without their MVP, Matt Holliday. While his injury does not appear that it will keep him out for an extended period of time, the Rockies are still piling up the losses while he is out.

The Yankees and Mets have already experienced more than their share of injuries this season. Both teams appear headed towards finally getting healthy. The Red Sox placed their ace, Dice-K on the disabled list today.

As the season wears on, more players will be banged up. It is the nature of baseball, and is caused by a regular season that lasts six months. For gamblers, the injuries that occur between now and October could very well hold the answers to whether they win or lose bets.
