Major League Baseball Trade Deadline Big Winners, The Celtics

Many baseball fans around the World were anticipating the usual moves at this years trade deadline, let's see, all the small market teams would give up their best players for young unproven talent, the young players would eventually become star players and be traded off for more young talent.

The big market teams would dabble some highly touted prospects in the face of the small market teams and come away with the likes of say, oh, i don't know, future hall of famers.

And, of course, the Yankees would just take whoever they chose from any organization outside of the Boston area.

So as the deadline came and went, the Braves appeared to do the best job by landing both Mark Teixeira from the Rangers and Octavio Dotel from the Royals.

The Phillies added Kyle Lohse from Cincinnati, the Mets added Luis Castillo from the Twins, and the Padres added Morgan Ensberg from Houston.

The Yankees, surprisingly enough gave up Scott Proctor from an already poor bullpen to get Wilson Betemit from the Dodgers.

The Red Sox dealt the Yankees playoff hopes a huge blow by plucking Eric Gagne away from the Rangers.

But on this day, it was another Boston team that came away the big winners at baseball's trade deadline, the NBA's Boston Celtics. That's right, the Celtics traded away seven players to the Minnesota Timberwolves for all star Kevin Garnett. That means that the Celtics now will put a team on the court that includes three franchise players, Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen.

The Celtics have done things so backwards in recent years that it would not be surprising if they have accidentally mistaken the baseball trade deadline for the NBA's. In either case, the Celtics have turned themselves into contenders through this off season, and on an uneventful day in baseball, the Celtics trade for Garnett would have to be considered the day's best.
