Major League Betting Now Focused On Pujols Triple Crown Run
Sports books can be extremely creative when it comes to posting proposition bets for the public to sink their teeth into. This year in Major League Baseball, however, the odds makers do not have to look far to find an attractive subject.
Albert Pujols is having one of those monster seasons that only come along once in a lifetime. He currently leads the league in home runs and runs batted in. He is near the top of the National League in average.
So the question begs asking. Can Pujols become the first player since Ted Williams to win the triple crown? It is a question that is on all baseball fans minds these days, and sports books will almost certainly soon take notice.
The odds cannot be great for Pujols to achieve the feat. After all, when a whole generation grew up never seeing a triple crown winner, it must be something hard to achieve. Pujols, however, has the ability to give it a serious run.
"I think he has the best chance of any player I have seen in the past twenty years," said baseball historian Hank Trubal, "because he has such a nice lead in home runs and RBI's, even if teams start pitching around him, he can maintain those leads."
The average is another story. Pujols was sitting eighteen points behind the leader, but after his two home run performance on Friday night, he has narrowed the gap. His eye is as good as any in the majors, and that will always lead to a high batting average.
Whether or not Pujols reaches the elusive star will be determined over the next couple of months. All eyes will be on the St. Louis slugger, and some of those eyes may even have a couple of dollars riding on his success or failure to accomplish the triple crown feat.
