Manny Ramirez Holding Up The Baseball Betting Public

It is as much a part of spring as the first crack of the bat. Gamblers like to try and predict who will win the World Series and sportsbooks are quick to offer betting lines. This year, the preseason betting is waiting on one final shoe to fall.

Where will Manny Ramirez end up? That is the question that is being asked around betting circles. Ramirez has long been rumored to be heading back to Los Angeles, but with Manny, nobody can be sure.

"If Manny (Ramirez) does sign with the Dodgers, you're going to see their World Series odds drop dramatically. They may even become the favorites to win the whole thing. That is how much of an impact player he is," said gaming analyst George Jonastard.

The Dodgers are already one of the favorites to win the National League West. It was Ramirez that led their late season charge last year and if he stays in L.A., it could be lights out for the rest of the division.

In recent days the Dodgers have upped their offer to Ramirez. They are now willing to give him a two year deal worth $45 million. The important part of the new offer is that Ramirez will have a player-only option for the second year.

If he has another monster year, he could bail on the Dodgers and see what he can get from other teams. If his season is mediocre by his standards, he is guaranteed another $20 million for the second year of his contract.
