Masters Betting Odds Change With Announcement Of Tiger's Presence
There is only one athlete in sports today that can significantly change the betting odds of an entire sport. Tiger Woods' presence at a golf tournament sends ripple effects throughout the gambling world.
That is why sports books are now gearing up for what will easily be the biggest betting day in golf so far this year. Woods announced Tuesday that he is set to play his first tournament of the year in April at the Masters.
It is a tournament that has been kind to Woods, with him frequently wearing the Green Jacket. It is a controlled atmosphere, one of the criteria for Woods' return after his acknowledgement of marital affairs back in November.
Since Thanksgiving, Woods has been receiving treatment for a sexual addiction. He appears to have dodged the tragedy of losing his family over his affairs, but the scrutiny he receives from the gallery's at golf events may not be as kind.
There had been speculation that Woods would enter a tournament or two before the Masters, seeing as though he generally values winning at major tournaments more than at other events. In the end, however, Woods felt most comfortable coming back at a place where the crowds and the media will be controlled.
As for the betting, Woods will most likely shoot to the top of the list. He has been favored in almost every tournament he has entered in the past decade, and even with the long layoff, this year's Masters should be no exception.
