Masters Betting Preview: Tiger Woods Lurking Near The Top
If Tiger Woods comes back from a four month layoff and wins The Masters, it could signal the end of competitive golf as we know it. After two rounds, Woods is lurking near the top of the leader-board, only two shots off the pace being set by Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.
Woods has not played a golf tournament since the night he was outed for infidelity last November. Critics believed that the long layoff would hurt Tiger's game, some even suggesting Woods would not make the cut at The Masters.
The golf icon not only has made the cut, but has put himself in position to win another major championship. If he can finish strong, as has become his trademark, Woods would have once again done something that sets him apart from the rest of the golfers on the tour.
"I usually put myself in contention most of the time here," said Woods after the third round. "And this year, I'm right there." That is not exactly the news that other golfers were looking forward to.
The weekend at Augusta could end up being historic even more than in a normal year. If Woods can pull off this comeback, it will go a long way in showing the world just how mentally tough he can. After months of counseling and self-critiquing, to be able to come out on the golf course and perform at this level has some analyst shocked.
Another popular golfer is also in contention this weekend. Phil Mickelson needed to only birdie the eighteenth hole on Friday to set up a dream pair of himself and Woods on Saturday. Mickelson missed the birdie putt, however, and now must chase down Woods from behind.
