Masters Golf Betting Preview: Woods To Tee Off Thursday Afternoon

Tiger Woods has been such a dominant force in golf over the past decade that even when he leaves the game for several months, he is expected to win upon his return. That will be the case this weekend at the Masters where Woods has been installed as the betting favorite.

Sports books must have taken their share of losses during the magical run that Woods has had in his career. With a win almost guaranteed at least half the time when Woods enters a tournament, it seems logical that even with some time off, Tiger is good enough to overcome rust.

The Masters will be Woods' first tournament back since being outed for many scandalous affairs. He apparently has used his time off to put his family back together, and now Woods will begin rebuilding his golf legacy.

Already, the legacy places Woods as one of the top golfers ever. His only goal for the rest of his career will be catching Jack Nicklaus for the most major tournaments won in history. Up until the point where Woods entered a sex rehabilitation clinic, the aforementioned seemed like a foregone conclusion.

Unlike in past Masters events that Woods has dominated, there will be some serious challengers. Ernie Els has been playing the best golf on tour in Woods' absence, and Phil Mickelson is always a threat to steal a major victory.

Woods enters the Masters as a 2/1 favorite. Mickelson comes in at 4/1, and Els at 5/1. Padraig Harrington is currently a 6/1 choice, with Camilo Villegas at 8/1. Several other golfers have odds ranging from 12/1 to 20/1.

Much emphasis has been placed on who will be paired with Woods in his first round back. That honor will go to K.C. Choi and Matt Kuchar. The threesome will be teeing off at 1:42PM on Thursday afternoon, and their second round will begin at 10:35AM Friday morning.
