Mavericks Gambling On Home Court To Salvage Nuggets Series

According to NBA playoff lure, the key ingredient for winning a series is to defend your home court. The Denver Nuggets did that in the first two games of their playoff series with the Dallas Mavericks.

Now it is the Mavericks turn to hold serve. If they do so, they will head back to Denver with the series tied. If they do not, it could be the beginning of the end of their playoff run.

It has been said by many who cover the NBA on a regular basis that star forward Dirk Nowitzki is soft. He did not help shed that label this past week when he acknowledged that he is having trouble with defenders in the Nuggets.

Nowitzki, however, is a different player at home. The people of Dallas love their superstar, and their energy in the arena has led to some of his best performances. he will need every bit of that energy to hold off the surging Nuggets.

Denver now appears to be the one team in the Western Conference that could derail the Lakers. Since acquiring Chauncey Billups in a trade with Detroit, Denver has played some of the most consistent basketball in the league.

The finished their first round series with the Hornets early after going to New Orleans and breaking the backs of the home team. They will be trying to do the same thing to the Mavericks today.

With Los Angeles taking back home court last night from the Houston Rockets, and Yao Ming hurting, it appears the Lakers could sweep through the rest of their series. That would leave them waiting for the winner of the Nuggets, Mavericks series. One that could be decided as soon as today's game in Dallas.
