Miami Dolphins Gambling On Jake Long With Number One Pick
The Miami Dolphins had one of the worst seasons in the history of the NFL. The only good thing that ever comes with being the worst team in football, is the number one pick in the draft.
Dolphins new man in charge, Bill Parcells has been coy over the years when letting on what his teams will do in the draft. The same happened this year when he would not reveal who he was leaning towards.
On Tuesday, four days before the draft, the Dolphins held a news conference and announced they had already signed their top pick. He is former Michigan left tackle Jake Long. Now the clock begins to tick on the team with the second pick, the Rams.
Long signed with the Dolphins for $57.75. That figure is surprising only in the fact that last year's top draft pick, JaMarcus Russell, inked a deal worth $61 million.
As far as the speculation the Dolphins were playing poker with the top pick, General Manager Jeff Ireland squashed that theory by saying, "Jake was our guy from the beginning. Jake Long was on the top of our board for a long time. There wasn't a whole lot of debate. We thought it was a very good fit with the Miami Dolphins."
