Miami Hurricanes Gambling On Youth In College Baseball Playoffs
The Miami Hurricanes are no stranger to the position they currently find themselves in. They are ranked #1 in the nation as they enter the regional phase of the College Baseball playoffs.
They were expecting to receive one of the easier draws in their regionals at Mark Light Stadium in Miami. What they actually got was what some experts think is the toughest regional of the sixteen.
Ole Miss and Missouri are both coming to the Light to play in the regional. They will be joined by Bethune Cookman, who played Miami tough earlier in the season.
The SEC received the most bids to the regionals with nine teams coming out of the conference. Miami secured the overall number one seed by winning their first ACC title. Down in Miami, however, they play for something bigger than conference titles every year.
They enter this year's playoffs gambling on a young group of players, but a highly touted group nonetheless. The last time they received the overall number one ranking was also the last time a number one ranked team won the College World Series.
In order to get to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, teams in the regionals will have to win their regionals, then win a super-regional best of three series.
Two other ACC teams will also be hosting regionals as top five seeds. The North Carolina Tarheels beat the Hurricanes two out of three the last week of the season. Florida State lost two of three to the Canes earlier in the year, but still ended the season in the top five.
The regionals begin on Friday and will continue on through the weekend.
