Minnesota Twins May Soon Be Gambling On Liriano In Rotation

The Minnesota Twins are one of those freak of nature organizations. They, like the A's and the Marlins, have somehow found a formula to be competitive every year even while trading away their best players.

This year has been no different for Minnesota. They are hanging right in the middle of a pennant race that most experts thought they would be out of by June.

The fact that they have stayed close enough to the Chicago White Sox for their management to go out and make a move to improve their chances is a testament to how well their young players have performed.

While they do not have the money to go out and trade for a big name player, they may soon be gambling on an old friend to help them make the playoffs. That person is pitcher Francisco Liriano.

Yes, that is the same Liriano who dazzled fans for half a season two years ago. The one who was out pitching the best pitcher in baseball, Johan Santana.

Liriano has come back from major arm surgery and after a rough start this year, is tearing up the minor leagues. He is 9-0 over his last ten starts and is striking out batters at a 10-1 ration to his walks.

It is expected that Liriano will be recalled by the Twins this weekend and could move into the starting rotation soon after that. It is unclear who Minnesota will bump from the rotation for Liriano, but with his under one E.R.A. someone will have to go.
