MLB All-Star Game Starters Set, Betting Begins On Monday
For several months, fans have been voting for their favorite players to represent the National and American leagues in the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star game. Today, the final votes were counted, and the starting teams were announced.
The reserves will be announced during the next week, but with the starters now known, gamblers can begin to decide which team they will bet on next week. The American League has dominated the game in recent years.
The American league will be sending a lot of veteran All-Stars to Anaheim. Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau, Robinson Cano, Evan Longoria, Derek Jeter, Carl Crawford, Josh Hamilton, Ichiro, and Vladimir Guerrero will be the starters, barring any injuries between now and next Tuesday.
The National League line-up will already have to be juggled due to injury. Jason Heyward, the Atlanta Braves rookie phenom, won the right to play in the NL outfield, but is hurt and will be replaced. Troy Tulowitzki will also be out of the game.
The NL will get one of their top shortstops back into the game when Jose Reyes makes his return behind Hanley Ramirez. Reyes missed last year because of injury, and has been a spark plug for the resurgent Mets this season.
The American League has been favored in recent years, but the NL should throw out a stable of strong arms, including Tim Lincecum, Roy Halladay, and Ubaldo Jimenez. Fans will decide a final player for each squad in voting that will take place this week.
