MLB Baseball Betting Odds: Yanks And Rays In Fight For AL East
Before the season began, most analysts believed it would be the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees battling it out of the American League East title. Currently, however, both of those teams are looking up at the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays have the best record in baseball and they do not appear likely to slow down any time soon. Their combination of young talented arms and explosive offensive has made Tampa almost impossible to beat early in the year.
The Rays are anchored by Matt Garza, who has been unhittable so far. They have several other starters that have been almost as effective, and their relief pitching is much improved over last year. The addition of Rafael Soriano as their new closer has made it difficult for teams to come back in the late innings against the Rays.
While Tampa has done almost everything right, the Boston Red Sox are struggling to find an identity. The pitching staff, touted as one of the best in baseball, has been vulnerable and is not living up to projections. The offense has been equally as bad, as the Red Sox are hovering around the .500 mark.
The Yankees have done exactly what was expected of them so far this year. C.C. Sabathia and the rest of the starters have been dominant. The offense has scored many runs, and that is with slow starts from both Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira.
There is still a long way to go in the season, and it is too early to tell whether the rays will be able to stay in the mix the entire year, but they are a team that was in the World series just two seasons ago, and the Yankees and Red Sox had better take notice.
