MLB Betting Begins This Sunday With Yankees, Red Sox
The Major League Baseball season begins in less than a week and that is good news for gamblers who enjoy placing an occasional bet on the ballgames. On Sunday, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will kick off the 2010 campaign.
It comes as no surprise that MLB decided to feature two of this year's World Series favorites in the opener. The Yankees are the defending champions, and they have reloaded over the off season. They did not, however, make as many moves as Yankees fans have grown accustomed to.
Boston is a team that again may have the top pitching staff in baseball. They already had Jon Lester and Josh Beckett at the top of their rotation, and that was before they went out and signed John Lackey to a long-term deal. Tim Wakefield and Clay Buchholz will round out the staff.
The Red Sox did lose one of their major run producers to free agency. Jason Bay has moved on and signed with the Mets. Boston replaced Bay with Mike Cameron. They also added Adrian Beltre to play third base. Beltre is widely considered to be one of the top defensive players in the league.
After the initial game is played, baseball will have a packed schedule on its traditional opening day, Monday. ESPN will be carrying games live all afternoon and into the night. Opening day is one of the many traditions that fans have enjoyed now for generations.
According to Las Vegas sports books, baseball betting is not as frequent as wagering on the NFL. Being that the season is 162 games instead of only sixteen games, gamblers have much more of an opportunity to wait until they find a match up they like before they place their bets.
