MLB Betting Heats Up With Pennant Races Taking Shape
Once the NFL season starts in just over a month, the betting world will turn its attention almost entirely to football. In the meantime, however, Major League Baseball and their pennant races will take center stage.
Until college football beings at the beginning of September, baseball is the only major sport in which gamblers can get their fix. NASCAR and golf are also available, but far fewer gamblers prefer those sports.
Baseball's pennant races are heating up, and for gamblers that means that the good teams are finally rising to the top. While odds may be longer on the favorites, it is still a chance many bettors like to take as teams scramble for a playoff position.
In the American League, the East is shaping up to be exactly what many predicted at the beginning of the year. The Yankees are in first, but the Red Sox and Rays are both within striking distance with two months left in the regular season.
The Central looks like it will also be a three team race until the end. The Detroit Tigers have held first place for quite a while now, but the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins are both lingering.
The West looks like it will come down to the Angels and Rangers. The Angels are the leagues best team since the all-star break, and they have made their run while Vladimir Guerrero and Torii Hunter have been sidelined with injuries.
Over in the National League, the Phillies are not receiving much of a battle from any team. The Marlins are the closest competitor to the Phillies, but are five games out with a big series between the two teams coming up this weekend.
The Cubs, Astros, Brewers, and Cardinals, are all involved in the Central race. Chicago, who played poorly for much of the first half, has been the most consistent team of late, and has the lead in the division.
Out West it has been the Dodgers who have been dominant all year. They have the best record in the majors, and they are running away with the division. San Francisco and Colorado are strong possibilities for the wild card in the National league.
